How to Wear a Jumpsuit

I’m a massive fan of jumpsuits, and although I don’t wear them often, I love how this one piece can make a complete outfit.

I used to be a little scared in wondering how to wear a jumpsuit and I know I’m not alone in that. They can be a little intimidating and if not worn correctly can look sloppy or make you look shorter or wider than you are. There is a reason you mainly see block colour jumpsuits. It’s the easiest to wear, and you don’t run the worry of looking like an idiot in a crazy printed jumpsuit. I have styled a simple jumpsuit in this post from Shein

These are my 5 style tips for wearing a jumpsuit:

Finding a jumpsuit that fits your body perfectly is key to looking polished and put together. Don’t wear anything too tight or too loose. If you wear a jumpsuit that’s too tight, you might give off that catwomen vibe, and you might feel uncomfortable. If you wear a jumpsuit that is too loose, you will completely hide your figure, and the fabric will overwhelm your body.

I will make the point of not losing your figure. A lot of jumpsuits have an integrated belt or you can easily add a belt to define your waist. Cinching your jumpsuit at the waist is a great way to add some femininity to the look and give you that curvy look.

Finding a perfectly draped jumpsuit is gold. Loose jumpsuits that drape your figure are more flattering than skin tight jumpsuits, as they flow over the parts of your body you want to hide. It will make you look more elegant and taller. Your waist is defined and with a wider leg your waist will look even slimmer.

If you’re wearing a wide leg jumpsuit like I am here, you need to wear heels. Wearing heels is a style rule I follow because I have a petite frame, and I don’t want to look even shorter I want to create the illusion that I’m super tall. If I were to wear this wide leg jumpsuit with sandals or flats, the bottom half would look pretty sloppy. It would look like I’m wearing a jumpsuit that doesn’t fit, and I would look shorter. Wide leg jumpsuits can overpower a small frame so make sure you’re pairing it with skinny heels.

If you’re new to the jumpsuit trend ease into it and wear a solid black or white jumpsuit. If you’re daring, wear a coloured solid, like mustard, burgundy, or olive green. But Black is always a slimming choice! A solid jumpsuit is elongating since it’s one unbroken vertical line the eye moves easily up and down without interruption. Once you feel comfortable in a black or white jumpsuit experiment by adding some pattern or splashes of colour.

I hope these style tips answered how to wear a jumpsuit! If you’d like to purchase the one I've styled in the blog, you can get it here for £15.99 from Shein.
