A Festive Night At Hotel Indigo York
This is the first time I have done a hotel and restaurant review, I am very excited to share what my stay at Hotel Indigo York was like!
Hotel Indigo is perfectly located in York on Walmgate, a thriving foodie destination and the birthplace of York’s Chocolate industry. The hotel is cute and quirky with 103 rooms within prime reach of some of York’s best artisan shops, restaurants, bars, boutiques, museums and galleries.
The eye-catching décor was designed by Matthews Mee, interiors hint at Walmgate’s chocolate heritage – Rowntrees (the famous English confectioner) started life in this neighbourhood in 1725.
It was Christmas Eve and the whole of York was filled with a magical festive vibe. I got to Hotel Indigo York at midday and checked into my room. I was given the Standard Boutique Bedroom which had a colour palette inspired by chocolate and other sweet treats. This reflects the long association between the city and confectionery, while lighting features based on antique chocolate moulds create an aura of pleasure and indulgence, how appropriate for a girl that works at Nestle Confectionary!
The first thing I did when I got in my room is dive onto King Size Bed with luxurious Egyptian Cotton linen. I felt like I’d died and gone to heaven! The hotel staff had kindly put some delicious chocolates on my bed to nibble on later that night, what a lovely touch that was. All rooms feature complimentary mini fridges with soft drinks & chocolates, air conditioning and SPA inspired bathrooms with rainfall showers. The furniture in the rooms are designed and crafted in Yorkshire, bringing it back to York’s traditional heritage. Bespoke touches such as antique Yorkshire Tea tins evoke a keen sense of place and times past. There was also a 40” HD Smart TV and free WIFI throughout, perfect for watching Christmas movies in my PJ’s that night and keeping up to date with Social Media!
I didn’t really feel like doing any exercise on Christmas Eve, but if I was to stay again I would definitely visit the Fitness Room, a small but perfectly equipped gym with choice of screens or the view to keep you amused, TV is the only thing that keeps me running on the treadmill!
After I had settled myself in my room and unpacked all my things I headed down to the hotel restaurant, No.88 Walmgate, with my family for a delicious lunch. They offer a tasty selection of Tapas style small plates, ideal for sharing with friends or family. The service and hospitality I received was amazing from their friendly staff. Their focus is simple: a cracking selection of dishes, made using fresh local ingredients with an internationally inspired twist, served up with a selection of craft beers and ales, from Yorkshire and beyond.
With meals ranging from Crispy Halloumi Bites to Tandoori Scallops or Smoked Brisket Tacos and Yorkshire Rarebit. There’s something on the menu to satisfy any craving, all made using quality, seasonal ingredients from local suppliers. I chose to have the Spiced Roasted Cauliflower with Green Beans. It was such a healthy and tasty dish, I would recommend this option if you visit the restaurant. No. 88 is also home to York’s first Freakshake, a which is a yummy mix of local Yorvale ice cream and toppings, including whipped cream, fresh fruit, nuts, Kit Kats and more. This is the perfect bed time treat, I know I certainly enjoyed tucking into some naughty ice cream at 9pm at night! The restaurant is open daily from 12 noon until 10 pm and diners can choose dishes to suit the time of day.
I’d like to thank Hotel Indigo York, I had the most wonderful stay in your beautiful hotel! If any of you are visiting York anytime soon I would highly recommend staying in this luxurious yet reasonably priced hotel. They treated me like a queen! I do hope you enjoyed reading and seeing the pictures of the hotel.
