As I have has a lot of questions of my routine I thought I would share what my life is like as a part-time blogger and my daily schedule.
I run my blog in my spare time, alongside a 37 hour a week job in marketing, a business degree and (where possible) a social life. When I have something I want to think through, mull over, or share with others, I can’t help but start writing things down on a page or a screen.
Spending a weekday evening jotting down my thoughts on a topic used to be considered a bit of an odd hobby, but now it can be viewed as a job. Like many of my hobbies over the years, I don’t actually want to do it full-time. I like the security of being an employee on someone else’s payroll, and I enjoy the lack of pressure that comes with part-time blogging. With being so young at 19 too, I like being able to gain experience in an established company, and who knows I might want to be a full-time blogger in the near future.
However, in this increased blogosphere, there is room for everyone. Whether you’re a full-time pro blogger with a glossy online presence, or someone typing/snapping away for fun in a spare moment, there is space for us all. I’m not doing this for comments and likes. I’m doing this because I enjoy writing and fashion, and this little corner of the internet is my favourite place to do it.
My typical routine as a part time blogger during the week looks like this:
6:30am – Alarm goes off and I debate whether or not to go back to sleep, but decide I should probably make some tea and get ready for the day.
- Scroll through Instagram
- Write or edit a post
- Respond to comments or emails
Do batch work, like look for stock photos for future posts. Even if I don't have a post written, I will look at photos and save the ones that I think I will use in the future. Or if I have a few photos and posts done, I will create and edit them on Blogger.
On my day's off or weekends, I actually spend about half a day working on my blog. This is usually geared towards random things, like updating a broken link, applying for affiliate programs or brainstorming new blog posts. I also do photoshoots for new Outfits I am loving or collaborations with brands.
8am-8.30am – Put my makeup on and leave for work
9:00am - 6pm – I realise how much I like my job in marketing at Nestle, but hate how busy I get! During lunch time, I check on all my social media interactions, go for a walk, and scoff down a soggy sandwich!
6:00pm – Leave work
6:15pm – Home and I make dinner, tidy up, as well as check on Instagram or do some pinning on Pinterest.
8:30pm -10:30pm- Catch up with friends, eat dinner and blog. If my workload is light, I'll have a pamper night and put a face mask on.
10:30pm- Plan my to-do list for the next day and then lights out!
Overall, this schedule is a little hectic for me! During my work week at my day job, I am super busy. Usually by Friday night, I'm exhausted and end up zoning out at home, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.
What's your schedule like?
Love Ciandra x
