A night at The Principal York

It was my first time visiting and I can’t wait to tell you all about how fantastic is this stay was!

The Principal York has been refurbished to a beautiful, stately yet cosy hotel. Everything about it oozes elegance - from the artfully arranged luggage in the Reception to the drawing room, right up to the bedrooms 155 elegant, comfortable bedrooms and suites. Everything is so tastefully decorated in muted greys and greens.

The Principal York is steps from the train station which is handy if you bring your whole wardrobe with you every time you go for a weekend break! It is the perfect base from which to discover the historic city of York.

After checking in I had a while in the drawing room, which has comfy couches, board games and seemed like the perfect place to have some afternoon tea looking out to the lovely green courtyard. I loved the grand staircase - it's charming and one feels quite glamourous coming down those stairs. It was the great spot to take a cheeky Instagram picture too, what more do you want?!

My bedroom was absolutely beautiful, I was lucky enough to be given a deluxe suite so felt like a princess. Deluxe rooms are all located in the main house and mine had a view of the Minster. It has a separate seating area with couch and armchair, a worktable and massive TV, which meant I could watch as much crap telly as I wanted. The fridge and amenities were cleverly hidden in a cabinet. The bed was a massive king-size with no less than six soft pillows and four decorative cushions. There is a charming red phone by the bed which I would have love to stow away in my bag, or take a cheeky snap with!

What I really liked was the tuck box they provided, which contained crisps (Tyrells, no less) and KitKat’s, as I work at Nestle this was a massive bonus knowing they were a lover of the brand. There was also still and sparking water and fresh milk in a wee little bottle which are complimentary in the fridge. I could have as many cups of tea I wanted, I was in heaven I must say.

The shower was fantastic. They have the rain faucet thingy on top and the usual handheld one. Love the water pressure and heat from the showers. The Elemis shampoo and conditioner were a nice touch, I always like a good freebie! And oh, the fluffy towels and bathrobes meant I could snuggle up in the evening.

Breakfast is served downstairs in a lovely glass roofed terrace room and was delicious, there was a great selection and options for all ranges of dietary requirements. My favourite part was the fresh fruit and endless hash browns!

The staff were all so lovely and nothing is too much trouble for them, I honestly couldn’t have asked for more they thought of everything. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Love Ciandra x
