A lot of women are afraid of styling capes but you shouldn’t
be because they are pretty easy to wear, when you know how! A cape for me is an
essential classic, sophisticated piece that adds style to any look. It’s also a
good way to add variety to your outer wear in winter to get away from the
usual, boring coats.
1. Capes give volume to the upper body
so they look great with fitted trousers to balance your figure.
2. Keep the rest of your outfit simple,
because a cape is a big and standout piece that always draws attention to you.
3. You can’t wear a cape with a shoulder
bag so go for a small clutch or cross body bag.
Your Body and Capes
I would choose a cape that doesn’t have too much fabric,
especially if you’re petite like me, or it can swamp you. A cape with a cinched in
waist reduces the volume and adds structure to your outfit. It looks great on
women with a small waist. If you’re not very tall and you want to wear a cape
with flats, choose a short to medium cape so you don’t look shorter! I like wearing boots with a cape to add a stylish addition to my outfit.
Where to Wear Capes?
There are lots of different cape styles. For formal
occasions and work the best are one-tone capes, with a simple style and some
structure. The most casual ones are great for informal situations, going out or
weekends. The cape I have styled in this post was a casual weekend outfit for
shopping and it really made a good impression.
Get This Look
I have kindly been sent a gorgeous burgundy cape from Shein. I paired the cape with a burgandy floppy hat from Pretty Little Thing and boots/leggings from Zara. You can purchase the cape here for £20.80, such a bargain too!
